ELIZABETH MOORE

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always wanted to make images that look like they appeared rather than were made. My work embraces the chaos of natural physicality—wetness, light, air, transparency, opacity—to capture images beyond my own intention and vision. I made these pieces by exposing light-sensitive dyes with an ultraviolet bulb. Faces and scenes appeared as I varied exposure time and wetness, collaged, layered, painted and manipulated the fabric with folds and bubbles. In all of this, I look for forms that are more emotionally than physically representative. Being in heaven, being in hell. Feeling surrounded, feeling isolated. The face of hate, the face of love.
