ADAM CROWLEY
ARTIST STATEMENT
I work traditionally, in a traditional medium. Oil painting is, for the most part, a slow process. I wake up at the same time every day. I paint every day. These are acts of devotion. An oil painting of a vase of flowers does not mean the same thing that it meant in 1890, which doesn’t mean the same thing as one painted in 1726. The hardy, nutritious, dandelion is labeled as a weed. I paint things that have been buried in my yard, then clean all the dirt from them, and paint them again, as a way to see the same thing in a transitional period of its time. I paint for fun. Empty planter as a simultaneous birth/death metaphor/ empty vessel/ waiting for seed/ the baked remains of the earth awaiting life. I paint for quiet.
