KCAC was founded by and for Artists -
Get Involved and Help Shape Our Community!
The Kansas City Artists Coalition was founded by a group of artists in the mid-seventies to champion work of local artists increasing the viability of Kansas City as a place for artists to live and work.
Members of KCAC are the foundation of our organization and as a Coalition, it is our mission to encourage artists in our community to work together to achieve this goal.
Rather than seek validation from external sources, KCAC aims to empower artists in our community to become their own authority and demonstrate their worth and importance. To do that, we encourage members to get involved and participate in our mission to promote the arts in our community.
Ways to get involved at KCAC:
-
KCAC hosts First Friday receptions throughout the year. It is a wonderful time to meet other artists and art enthusiasts in the community.
Get involved as a gallery attendant or bartender. You can choose between an 1.5 hour opening or closing shift - either way, you’ll still have time to go see what else is happening in our community on First Friday!
-
KCAC hosts multiple programs and events in addition to First Fridays; from Coffee Talks, panel discussions, Artist Talks, and more there are plenty of ways to show up in the community.
Host a KCAC check in table to meet and greet members of our community.
-
Promote the arts in our community! KCAC participates in local art fairs, neighborhood festivals, school functions, etc. Show up and advocate for the arts and culture in our region.
-
Help spread the word about current and upcoming exhibitions at KCAC. KCAC’s exhibitions allow artists to express themselves by allowing them space to work out ideas and market their work to a large audience.
Pick up postcards and posters to put at your favorite local venue, coffeeshop, school, etc.
-
The Exhibitions team at KCAC has one week to deinstall and install the latest exhibitions. It’s always nice to have a few helping hands that are will to patch and paint the gallery walls!
-
Get involved with your community by teaching a workshop at KCAC! Part of professional development for artists is staying inspired to work in studio.
Let us know if you have a specialty that you’d like to teach!
-
Artists are craving community and feedback about their work. Studio Visits and Critiques are great vehicles to understand your practice better. In 2024, KCAC will begin scheduling and promoting studio visits for area artists.
Let us know how you’d like to be involved by completing this short survey and someone from KCAC will follow up with you!
