Ted Hinrichs’ abstract painting practice is rooted in his continual fascination with the dynamics of relationships. His work explores the variety of languages used to communicate with other humans and with the universe. He begins with a relationship concept then uses colors and shapes to portray his understanding of the elements involved in communicating within it. The image consists of many layers which journal the flow of discovery. Within the layers are mysterious shapes that resemble the nature of the language of imagination.
Hinrichs structures his practice into various discrete studies: Relationship, Time, Hope, Natural, and presently, Language. Each study explores the nature of relationships from different entrances, vantage points, or lived experiences.
