SPECIAL POWER
OCTOBER 4 - 25, 2024 | MAIN GALLERY
Banciella's artwork features self-portraits surrounded by dense environments of plant life. The lush foliage simultaneously exudes an alluring yet unsettling atmosphere, mirroring the duality she seeks to capture. The self-portraits represent a confrontation with past selves, exploring processes of grappling with, surrendering to, and letting go of harmful thoughts and behaviors. Her drawings and paintings are accompanied by poems that expand upon the narratives and emotions present in each piece. Banciella finds inspiration from inventive poets and artists like Sylvia Plath, Louise Glück, and Katherine Bradford, drawn to their ability to construct immersive worlds through vivid imagery, playfulness, and distinctive mark-making. Banciella's work has been featured in solo exhibitions in Gainesville and Sarasota, Florida, as well as Lake City, South Carolina. Her next solo show is scheduled for October in Kansas City, Missouri.
