MIDWEST POETS SERIES: Carl Phillips
Midwest Poets Series at Rockhurst University, a 41-year tradition, presents the acclaimed poet Carl Phillips. Phillips is the author, most recently, of Scattered Snows, to the North (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2024) and Then the War: New and Selected Poems 2007-2020 (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2022), which won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize. Phillips’ other honors include awards and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Library of Congress.

Jennifer Maritza McCauley is the author of SCAR ON/SCAR OFF, When Trying to Return Home and Kinds of Grace. She is fiction editor at Pleiades and an assistant professor of English at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

HAW CONTEMPORARY Now and Then: Julie Blackmon and Jim Howard November 22, 2024 - January 15, 2025
Visitors will encounter Blackmon’s work from the early 2000s, all in black and white and presented in a square format, as well as Blackmon’s most recent photographs, many of which are paired with oversized wall vinyl featuring Howard’s poems, inspired by the works.

TROOST GARDENS: Karaoke Night
In collaboration with stop-gap projects, Troost Gardens is proud to present Karaoke Night!, a group exhibition and interactive performance featuring 13 Midwest connected artists whose work responds to the phenomenon of karaoke. Making art and singing karaoke share much in common: a connection to popular culture, self expression, collaboration, riffing on an idea, and getting loose, to name a few.

LAWRENCE ARTS CENTER 8 x 8 - Juried Exhibition
The Lawrence Arts Center invited artists to submit artwork that is 8 inches by 8 inches. This call for entries encouraged both established and emerging artists to submit. Submissions were open to any medium and subject matter in the stated size perimeter, and the guest juror was vanessa german.
