SUSAN KIEFER
JUNE 5, 2020
CERBERA GALLERY – SUSAN KIEFER explores the range of expression obtainable with compositions using primarily geometric shapes. The intrigue of working with a restricted image vocabulary is reflected in a line from Edna St. Vincent Millay: “Euclid alone has looked on beauty bare.” However these images are not entirely bare, being clothed with layers of expressive brush and palette knife work and strong color. The emphasis on circular and enclosed shapes in this group of paintings is a conscious decision, championing a feminine aesthetic in today’s political atmosphere. Most of her work is abstract and she prefers working in oil for the richness of the color interactions and texture that slow drying affords. *Please note this exhibition will take place at Cerbera Galleries located at 2011 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, MO 64108.
