MARIE MASON
MARIE MASON has been painting since childhood, encouraged by her grandmother who gave her a paint by number kit of Gainsborough’s “Blue Boy” when she was eight years old. After growing up in the Pacific Northwest, studying and working in Oregon and Nevada, she relocated to the Midwest in 1980. Painting continues to be the one constant that ties together the changes that have occurred in her life. This collection represents examples of work created during the past 25 years. Her inspiration comes from her love of gardening, the outdoors, the changing weather and her dogs and cats. She develops forms in her paintings that express remembered feelings and impressions, rather than a representational record of the world. Mason’s style ranges from thoughtful and subdued to colorful and upbeat.
