SPRING FEVER/PINK SCRAPES/BRIDGE FRAGS

Spring Fever/Pink Scrapes/Bridge Frags is a two-person exhibition by Joe Bussell and Fred Trease.
JOE BUSSELL
In the process of making 2-D or 3-D art I add what makes sense and subtract what doesn’t. That is a process that can take years or realized in a day. What I add or what I keep represents my history, dreams, memories, and personal aesthetic. I want the finished piece to translate the psychological loop and tell a complete story.
I have maintained my professional contemporary art practice for over 40 years. In that time, I received my BFA in painting at Kansas University, my MFA's in painting and ceramics at Washington University in Saint Louis. I exhibit widely in the US and Europe.
The development of my visual language took on new heights while living in London, Boston, Los Angeles and various cities in the Midwest. Most vividly, I worked in an AIDS hospice for five years. Those experiences play a significant role in my queer vocabulary.
FRED TREASE
My education has been as a biologist and a sociologist. The majority of my career has been spent in the practice of environmental public health. In 2013 I began using a tablet to make digital drawings based on my science background. This daily practice has been a portal to greater exploration and self discovery. Spring Fever is derived from a series of drawings that began during the isolation of the pandemic. They have grown to be about returning to the world and starting anew.
