Troy is a KCAC member and we fell in love with his introspective photography that looks at the world through his son’s eyes. We thought that the raw documentary style of his photos needed to be shared with our Instagram community, so we asked and he said yes!
We are very excited to see what Troy has in store for us this week, so here are a few words from him about his work and artistic inspiration…
“This will pass. I promise you, is an on going lyrical document project that centers on my youngest son. Easton, my 10-year-old son, is a high-strung child that deals with anxiety and migraines. These issues can make for some very rough days for the both of us. My project This will pass. I promise you. is a collaboration, although he is not always a willing subject. I am documenting his life in a raw emotional way. In doing so it allows for me to find understanding from these emotions.
Easton’s emotions can change rapidly, so I have my digital camera ready to capture these moments at the exact time they happen. The images are processed as black and white. I find that removing the distraction of color, brings the intensity of his emotion into focus. I am furthering the narrative by using various mixtures of light and different compositional aspects. In doing so, I can emphasize his stress when needed or his calmness as well.
The work has become a way for me to deal with fatherhood and the stresses that come along with it. The process of making the work has also brought me an insight and understanding of these moments in our lives. I have learned to be in the moment while being watchful and remaining compassionate. This allows me to be in a state where I can be a better father.”
We are very excited to see what Troy has in store for us, so here are a few images of his artwork and past Instagram photos to get things kicked off…
