The KCAC Artist Lifestyle project is BACK! We took a mini holiday break and can’t wait to get things started back up with recent exhibiting artist Jonathan Higbee (@aliveisthecity)

Jonathan came across our radar when his photography was accepted and exhibited in the most recent KCAC River Market Regional Exhibition. His photo in the show this summer is titled Giza, Egypt 1. The photograph is part of a series of works titled “Forbidden City”, where Jonathan looks at countries around the world that consider being gay a crime and asks the viewer to examine what exactly this crime is or isn’t and how this effects us all on an international and personal level.

We are thrilled to have Jonathan join us this week, so here are a few words from him about his work and artistic inspiration…

“When making photographs, I’m compelled to create work that sparks wonder and leaves the viewer with a new perspective of reality. The narratives in my images — whether it’s street, minimal or fine art photography we’re talking about — are driven by far-fetched, surreal visuals that distort the relationship between figure and ground, while exploring artifice and our modern dependency on manufactured happiness.”

We are excited to see what Jonathan has in store for us, so here are a few images of his artwork and past Instagram photos to get things kicked off…
