KCAC Artist Lifestyle project is returning this week with regional artist Hillary Brooks (@hillary_brooks). Hillary will be showing us the art world through her eyes in the Arkansas area! We are very excited to take a visual trip with Hillary for the next six days to see what is happening in her art practice and career.
Hillary’s works are currently featured at KCAC in the 34th Annual River Market Regional Exhibition: Truth, Trust, Transcend. The show and two of Hillary’s sculptures are up on display at KCAC through September 22nd during gallery hours Wednesday – Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm.
Let’s get this journey kicked off with a few words from Hillary on her work and current art practice…
“What is the difference between nakedness and nudity? Where does the line draw between objectification and empowerment? How does context play a role in our conception of appropriateness? These are questions my work elicits. I challenge the context of appropriateness while confronting that which is criticized about femininity. The frivolity and triviality, the shame associated with the body, are now tools used to highlight the ridiculous assumptions of womanhood.”
We are anxious to see what Hillary has in store for us, so here are a few images of her artwork and past Instagram photos to get things kicked off…
Be sure to follow Hillary on her KCAC Instagram journey starting tomorrow Thursday, August 31st – Tuesday, September 5th!
